What we believe:
We believe:
In the one God, Creator of all, Triune in nature (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
In the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
In one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father. Through him all things were made. Through dying on the cross, He paid for the sins of those who will put their faith in Him, and conquered death by rising again on the third day.
In the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
That all mankind has sinned. Sin has brought the deserving punishment of death on all mankind, and we need a Saviour to turn our hearts back to God and save us from His righteous judgment.
That repentance from sin, salvation from hell and assurance of eternal life come only through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.
In the authority, infallibility, and inerrancy of the Bible, as it is inspired by the Holy Spirit and is God’s means of revealing Himself and His plan for salvation.
The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the rule of our faith and practice.
Worship is according to how God has commanded and includes reading God’s Word, preaching, praying, giving of offerings and singing of psalms.
What is the gospel?
The word gospel means “good news.” The good news is Jesus, who He is, His life, what He did, and the benefits that flow to us if we’re united to Him by faith and by faith alone. Before Jesus returned to Heaven He commanded the church to spread the gospel to every person and every part of the world.
Let’s expand on that a bit. To fully understand the good news of Jesus Christ and His salvation, we need to consider the bad news and some history.
God created the world perfectly. It was all very good with no death, disease, pain, or sadness. The first people, Adam and Eve, were given the earth to rule over and take care of. They had a perfect relationship with God and walked with Him and fellowshipped with Him. However, at the tempting of Satan, they disobeyed God and pridefully thought they could be like God. Death is the just punishment for sin, and through this first sin death came into the world. All mankind experiences death as a result of our sin. Mankind’s rejection of God and deliberate sin in opposition to Him has many destructive consequences that we see in the world around us. We need salvation from sin, its destructive consequences, and its deserving judgement.
God has shown great mercy to the world. When Adam and Eve sinned, God promised that one of their descendants would defeat the devil, restoring them to perfect fellowship with God. God spoke many times about this coming Saviour through prophets, priests, and others. This Saviour would be the descendant of King David and also the Son of God. He would be born of a virgin and would reign perfectly over a greater kingdom than His ancestor David’s. These promises and others of the coming Saviour were good news to the people who heard them and received them by faith.
This Saviour is Jesus, God in the flesh. Jesus lived the perfect life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead three days later. Mankind could never have communion with God because God cannot have such a relationship with sinners. If we put our faith in Jesus, His righteous life is credited to us, and His death on the cross paid for all our sins. Through faith, Jesus gives believers His righteousness so that they can be assured that God’s holy anger against sin is satisfied and they’re adopted as His children. God also gives His Holy Spirit to work in believers so that they will grow to hate their sin and live like Jesus. Our bodies and everything that is damaged by sin will die, but when Jesus returns, we will be resurrected to live for all eternity with Him in the new Heavens and the new Earth.
“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” - Romans 10:9
